The place of wearing garments for pilgrimage for a person who is travelling from Madeenah to Jaddah before pilgrimage

Question
I am a student of the University of Madeenah and my family live in Jaddah. Is it necesary for me to enter the state of pilgrimage, ihraam, of the people of Madeenah or perform it from Jaddah, knowing that I will visit my parents first in Jaddah?
Answer

The person must perform the ihraam from where he starts. Thus, if he intends major or minor pilgrimage from Madeenah, he must perform the ihraam from the boundary of Madeenah which is Thu-l-Hulayfah. However, if he intends to slaughter during major or minor pilgrimage from Jaddah, he should perform the ihraam from Jaddah. Hence, performing the ihraam is from wherever he intends. If he performs it from Madeenah and then goes to his family and stays with them for a long or short term and then intends to wear the garments of ihraam, and he started from Madeenah, he must return to the boundary of Madeenah, which is the opinion of most scholars. Imaam Maalik (may Allaah’s Mercy be upon him) held the opinion that if a person performs the ihraam from other than the boundary, or from those which are added to the specific boundary legislated by the Prophet ﷺ, that is sufficient for him.
