Women wearing ankle bracelets made of silver

Question
I met some of our elderly women that wear ankle bracelets made from silver. What is the ruling on this? Is there anything that we have to expiate on their behalf because of that? If so, how do we do that?
Answer

These ankle bracelets are for beautification purposes, some of which make a noise when walking. If the intent is beautification only, and they are not worn in the presence of non-related men, then there is no harm in that. This was something known before Islaam, and the Muslims kept up with that tradition until the present day. If however, these are worn in order to seek blessings from them or to repel harm or the evil eye etc., they are not permissible under any circumstances.
