The superiority of the Speech of Allaah over any other speech is like the superiority of Allaah upon His creation. Therefore, if we come to know the status of the Qur’aan, it is necessary for us to pay great attention to it and constantly recite it, for the superiority of the Speech of Allaah over any other speech is like the superiority of Allaah upon His creation. Unfortunately, many Muslims spend long hours reading newspapers and magazines, but the Book of Allaah has no portion of their time. This is a turning of the hearts, and we ask Allaah to preserve us against this. Therefore, it is necessary to constantly recite the Book of Allaah and memorize what we can from it. Allaah said,
{بَلْ هُوَ ءَايَـٰتٌۢ بَيِّنَـٰتٌۭ فِى صُدُورِ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْعِلْم}
“Rather, it is distinct aayahs [preserved] within the breasts of those who have been given knowledge.” (Al-Ankaboot, 49)
A heart which has no Qur’aan in is like a deserted house. Hence, we must pay attention to memorise the Qur’aan, and constantly recite it, to have a set portion to recite daily such that no sunset occurs without us having recited it. We must also accompany this recitation with understanding and reflection because it is the Speech of Allaah which contains His Orders and Prohibitions. If the recitor does not understand what he is reciting, how can he act upon the Orders and Prohibitions of Allaah?! All the Islamic disciplines are encompassed in the reflection upon the Qur’aan. Ibn Al-Qayyim (may Allah’s Mercy be upon him) says, (Nooniyyah, The Noon Poem, by Ibn Al-Qayyim, 49),
so reflect upon the Qur’aan if you seek Guidance
for knowledge follows reflection upon the Qur’aan
To illustrate this, if new regulations were issued for a specific division for implementation, you would find head of the division, his deputies, and the heads of departments disappear to study and understand these regulations, and yet it is human regulations. The aayahs and Words in the Book of Allaah need scholars or books of Qur’aan explanation to clarify it. However, people pass such Words by without reflection, question or study, as if it does not concern the reader or hearer.
